Advantages and disadvantages of morphological methods in engineering

Abstract: The morphological methods are successful analytical and practical tools for development and choice of new engineering solutions. They can be successfully used in the conceptual and preliminary design stages of the development of new systems, products and technologies. The article discusses the scope of application, classification, advantages and disadvantages of this approach. The design process consists of two stages - structural synthesis and parametric optimization. The morphological approach is used for th… Show more

“…A major step to address these challenges and the CAI tool requirements outlined in Section 3 could be seen in the developed Advanced Morphological Approach (AMA) (Rakov 2019(Rakov ,2020, (Bardenhagen & Rakov, 2019). It is based on the provisional MA, system analysis, variant clustering and mathematical modelling.…”

“…The automation of the process itself creates patterns in the solution space influenced by the defining process characteristics. The development of project cost, cost influence and uncertainty of information over project lifetime is shown in Figure 1 (Bardenhagen, 2019;Rakov, 2020).…”

“…The morphological technique is the study of shape as well as forms before the product is being developed [53]- [56]. The basic idea of the morphological technique is to elaborate the overall design issue into few variables to generate a solution for each criterion.…”
