Abstract: In the United States (U.S.), physical inactivity is the fourth leading cause of death, with an estimated 200,000 deaths annually (Danaei et al., 2009). The lack of activity across the life span is important because it is a welldocumented risk factor for leading non-communicable diseases including cardiovascular disease, cancers, obesity, and type 2 diabetes, as well as impaired quality of life (U.S. Burden of Disease Collaborators, 2013; U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2008). “…However, a common problem is that research findings on public health-related topics such as PA promotion are oftentimes not translated into practice, resulting in a research–practice gap [ 10 12 ]. Consequently, there is a strong need to develop strategies on how to bridge the gap and implement PA recommendations in specific settings [ 10 , 12 14 ].…”

“…Best practices that inform the implementation of these strategies are also needed to support communities and states. (Manteiga et al, 2017) and Physical Activity Policy Research Network Plus (PAPRN+) (Pollack, Schmid, Wilson, & Schulman, 2016). For both networks, a coordinating center and five collaborating centers were funded to conduct independent projects with the goal of establishing evidence regarding policies that influence opportunities for physical activity across multiple sectors.…”

“…Since 2004, CDC has supported thematic research networks focused on physical activity policy as part of the Prevention Research Centers (PRC) program. Between 2004 and 2019, CDC funded the Physical Activity Policy Research Network (PAPRN) ( Manteiga et al, 2017 ) and Physical Activity Policy Research Network Plus (PAPRN+) ( Pollack, Schmid, Wilson, & Schulman, 2016 ). For both networks, a coordinating center and five collaborating centers were funded to conduct independent projects with the goal of establishing evidence regarding policies that influence opportunities for physical activity across multiple sectors.…”
