Advances in Tracking Control for Piezoelectric Actuators Using Fuzzy Logic and Hammerstein-Wiener Compensation

Abstract: Piezoelectric actuators (PEA) are devices that are used for nano- microdisplacement due to their high precision, but one of the major issues is the non-linearity phenomena caused by the hysteresis effect, which diminishes the positioning performance. This study presents a novel control structure in order to reduce the hysteresis effect and increase the PEA performance by using a fuzzy logic control (FLC) combined with a Hammerstein–Wiener (HW) black-box mapping as a feedforward (FF) compensation. In this resea… Show more

“…Some other relevant studies are those of Guo et al [17], who described the application of an ANFIS for partial discharge pattern recognition, and Voloşencu [18], who applied an ANFIS for the speed control systems of electric drives based on fuzzy PI controllers. Likewise, in another study, Napole et al [19] employed fuzzy logic control to reduce the hysteresis effect and to increase the performance of piezoelectric actuators.…”

“…Results revealed that suitable nonlinearities like electrical features and uncertainties can be mirrored with linguistic rules, an essential feature of this tool [19]. However, one of the main disadvantages of fuzzy logic strategies is the computational requirement when features are increased and thus, rules are expanded [20]. Another different approach was used by authors of [21] where they employed support vector machine (SVM) based on data-driven for fault diagnosis in PEMFC.…”

“…Although the implementation of STA is simple, as any other SMC controller, it has a discontinuous and a continuous term; traditionally, for the design of the latter mentioned, the model knowledge is required to construct the control law [56]. However, the hysteresis models have certain drawbacks which can produce difficulties for implementations and design [57].…”
