Advances in Precision Health and Emerging Diagnostics for Women

Abstract: During the Dutch winter famine of 1944–1945, an interesting observation was made about the offspring born during this time—They had an increased risk of developing metabolic syndrome and other chronic diseases. Subsequent research has confirmed this finding as well as noting that health outcomes for many diseases are different, and often worse, for women. These findings, combined with the lack of enrollment of women in clinical trials and/or analysis of sex-specific differences are important factors which need… Show more

“…However, it could also include venture capital from the emerging "FemTech" sector explicitly directed in this area and supporting small startups working in women's health. 62 It is critical to support early-career researchers with this funding and to nurture entrepreneurship within the biomaterials space. It is challenging but potentially rewarding to develop further pathways to the commercialization of new materials and devices using novel biomaterials technologies.…”

“…A study in which sexual difference is a central analytical category and, as such, an explanation requires much more than the simple task of “adding” women to the data as a simple item of statistical information. We must realize the significance of being a woman or a man in health research [ 65 , 66 ]. In other words, it is necessary to include gender-specific strategies in the prevention of CVD through education and emotional regulation.…”
