Advances in PET/CT Imaging for Breast Cancer

Abstract: One out of eight women will be affected by breast cancer during her lifetime. Imaging plays a key role in breast cancer detection and management, providing physicians with information about tumor location, heterogeneity, and dissemination. In this review, we describe the latest advances in PET/CT imaging of breast cancer, including novel applications of 18F-FDG PET/CT and the development and testing of new agents for primary and metastatic breast tumor imaging and therapy. Ultimately, these radiopharmaceutical… Show more

“…We have to keep in mind, however, that [ 18 F]PSMA-1007 PET/CT will probably not substitute [ 18 F]FDG PET/CT in the diagnosis of TNBC. First of all, [ 18 F]FDG shows satisfactory diagnostic accuracy [24][25][26]. Secondly, [ 18 F]FDG is widely available and cheaper than 68 Ga-or 18 F-labeled PSMA ligands.…”

“…Fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography ( 18 F-FDG-PET/CT) has also been used in the diagnosis and staging of TNBC (Ulaner et al 2016 ; Yue et al 2015 ). However, for mastitis, this imaging technique may lead to false-positive results (de Jong et al 2023 ). Therefore, a method for the effective early diagnosis and screening of TNBC is urgently needed.…”
