Advances in base- and mobile-station aided cooperative wireless communications: An overview

Abstract: Abstract-Albeit the conception of relaying dates back to the 1970s, in recent years there has been an upsurge of search interest in cooperative wireless communications in both academia and industry. This article presents an easy-reading overview of the pivotal topics in both mobile station (MS) and base station (BS) assisted cooperation in the context of cellular radio systems. Owing to the ever-increasing amount of literature in this particular field, this paper is by no means exhaustive, but intends to serve… Show more

“…In such scenario, the relay node assigned to that sensor node will be under‐utilised severely. Similar issues can also arise in various other cooperative uplink/downlink transmission scenarios [10, 11]. Therefore, it is necessary to provide more access flexibility in the time domain when doing relay assignment in cooperative networks.…”

“…There is a central controller in the system which manages the cluster configuration. All BSs are connected via backhaul to share the CSI between all BSs and all users for a clustering at the central controller [11].…”

“…The transmissions with the aid of relay nodes have received a lot of attention due to their potential exploitation of both time and spatial diversity by sharing the resources of different nodes in wireless networks [1][2][3]. To fully exploit the benefits of relay-aided networks, accurate channel knowledge of different links is required for coherent reception and optimal design [4][5][6][7].…”
