Advanced post‐impact safety and stability control for electric vehicles

Abstract: In terms of the possible secondary or multiple events accidents (MEA) after an initial vehicle to vehicle (V2V) impact, this research proposes an active safety & stability controller for independent-driven electric vehicles towards recovering the vehicle to safety states after an impact. The controller aims to regulate the course angle and lateral deviation that enforce the vehicle back to its original driving path. The upper-level controller is derived based on sliding mode technique. And the low-level contro… Show more

“…The first approach involves an activated controller with collision detection using pure signal processing of sensor measurements [1][2][3][4]. The second approach estimates collision forces resulting from inter-vehicle collisions to detect the occurrence of collisions, and it utilizes these collision forces in the control system [5][6][7][8][9][10]. Methods assuming the vehicle states of counterpart vehicles are available.…”

“…Additionally, research on PISC is also being conducted on the application of a sliding mode controller (SMC) [1,2,6,10,14]. SMC is a nonlinear control method that provides robust control against uncertainties and external disturbances in a system.…”
