Advanced Modeling of Electric Components in Integrated Energy Systems with the TransiEnt Library

Abstract: Integrated Energy Systems (IES) with the coupling of electricity, gas and heat are assumed to be a suitable concept for future energy systems. For the necessary energy system analysis with respect to dynamics and stability, powerful tools are needed. Such tools should be provided in open toolboxes to make the research more transparent, comprehensive and communicative. It is aimed that scientists collaborate on models for multimodal energy system analysis. The dynamic simulation is a method that allows to consi… Show more

“…Most of the tools cover all flexibility aspects, especially on the supply side. The tool TransiENT [64] seems to be the most potent model in this assessment, having a remarkable representation of supply and storage but regarding demand representation, BAL-MOREL [65] and EMMA [66] perform much better. In the context of network representation, models such as eGo [67], PANDAPOWER [68], and GRIDCAL [69] outstand.…”

“…Therefore, the existing models needed to be refined to show the behavior of the considered systems before, during, and after disturbances. For this purpose, a special focus was laid on the electric grid, expanding the models to spatially resolved, stationary and dynamic computations (Heckel and Becker 2019). Furthermore, the connections between the sectors were revised to be able to answer the questions of how disruptions in one sector affect other sectors.…”
