“…Thus the EQ5D value obtained for our patients in Tanzania was at the lower range of EQ5D scores reported for the impact of glaucoma on patients. Our patients in Tanzania were much more likely to have moderate to severe perceived visual field loss associated which lower EQ5D scores, as found by Aspinall et al [15] Whilst we did not collect clinical information, many papers have reported more severe disease in the clinic population in SSA compared to elsewhere [17].…”

“…[5][6][7] Poor compliance and adherence to medications are well-known drawbacks for glaucoma patients, especially in Africa. 14 Mahmoud H 15 did an internet-based questionnaire including Egyptian ophthalmologists to assess the effect of COVID-19 on ophthalmology practice in Egypt. 81.5% of participants (1257 ophthalmologists) thought that the lockdown had a deleterious impact on the progression and follow-up of chronic diseases (eg, glaucoma).…”

“…Studies involving adults [ 21 , 22 ] highlighted compliance as low as 39% for recommended glaucoma appointments. Patients provided differing reasons for missing such appointments, such as forgetting the scheduled appointment [ 22 ], lack of transportation [ 22 , 23 ], or low economic status [ 22 , 24 ]. Other reasons for follow-up non-adherence in adult glaucoma patients included end-stage glaucoma and poorer visual acuity [ 24 ], limited literacy level [ 22 , 23 ], a lack of understanding of glaucoma and the significance of regular eye care [ 22 ], and black or Hispanic ethnicity [ 23 , 25 ].…”
