Adsorptive removal of bisphenol A using synthesized magnetite nanoparticles

Abstract: Bisphenol A (BPA) is an organic compound which is often used as plasticizer and has been reported to be hazardous to man. In this research the efficiency of removal of BPA from water by magnetite through adsorption process was studied. The magnetite was synthesized using reverse co-precipitation method and fully characterized. Various physicochemical parameters affecting the adsorption of BPA using magnetite were studied as well. The optimum time for the adsorption process was found to be 60 min at pH of 6, ad… Show more

“…Recently, materials based on magnetic iron oxides have become a promising alternative adsorbent because the technique may enhance the adsorption process by eliminating the filtration and centrifuging steps in other methods [6,7] and also provides a wide surface area, separation properties and low toxicity [13]. Nanoparticles of iron oxides have been widely used to eliminate BPA and to further isolate adsorbents from matrix samples [14][15][16][17][18]. While the wide area-to-volume ratio of nanomaterials brings about an exponential increment in adsorption capacity, the incidence of aggregation, non-specificity and low stability can restrict the usage of such nanotechnologies owing to the absence of functionality [16].…”

“…4,12 Many researchers have investigated the BPA removal by adsorption using different adsorbents, such as clays, 13,14 zeolites, 15,16 chitosan, 17,18 and agricultural wastes. 19,20 A decade ago, Dong et al 2010 (ref. 21) prepared zeolite from coal y ash with low and high CaO content.…”

“…Bisphenol A (BPA) is recognized as a dangerous endocrine disruptor. It causes a number of hazardous effects on living beings such as fertility damage and fetal development problems [1][2][3]. It has been extensively used as a crude material in the industrial production of epoxy resins and polycarbonate plastics, which accounted for nearly 64% of BPA demand in 2018.…”
