Adsorptive Desulfurization of Commercial Kerosene with Sulfated Alumina Producing Heavier Organic Sulfur Compounds

Abstract: The desulfurization performance of solid superacid type adsorbent (sulfated alumina) for commercial kerosene was evaluated on batch system and on continuous flow system. Adsorptive desulfurization using acidic adsorbent, especially sulfated alumina, is promising method for desulfurization of commercial kerosene at moderate condition. The acid property seemed to effect on adsorption performance. Adsorbents combination of 4.1 l, 0.3 l of activated carbon supporting copper oxide and silver oxide and 3.8 l of Lewi… Show more

“…The pyridine-FTIR method was used to identify the adsorbent acid sites. The adsorbents were saturated with pyridine, heated to 150 °C, and purged under a constant flow of helium (30 mL·min –1 ) to remove any residual pyridine; , this was followed by FTIR analysis. The thermal degradation of adsorbents was determined using a thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) instrument (TA Instruments TGA 5500) equipped with TRIOS software.…”

“…The washed carbon adsorbents were dried in an oven for 24 hrs at 100-110°C. Table 1 shows sulfur contents of Thiophene type and benzothiophene type of kerosene A and kerosene B were 2.8 mass ppm (mg-sulfur/kgkerosene) and 4.7 mass ppm respectively [2].…”

“…Deep desulfurization of liquid hydrocarbon fuels is becoming an important subject worldwide. The desulfurization performance of sold super acid type adsorbent (sulphated alumina) for commercial kerosene was evaluated on batch system and on continuous flow system [2]. The removal of sulphur components from gasoline by carbon nanotubes for use as support in catalysis was conducted in batch conditions [3].…”
