Adsorption of Methyl tert‐butyl Ether on Perfluorooctyl Alumina Adsorbents – High Concentration Range

Abstract: The performance of two types of perfluorooctyl alumina (PFOAL) adsorbents prepared using c-alumina (PFOAL A ) and alumina-active-basic® (PFOAL B ) is reported. The equilibrium adsorption behavior of the adsorbents was studied for adsorption of methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) in a wide range (5-1000 mg/L) of aqueous phase MTBE concentrations. The monolayer adsorption capacities were 3.3 and 3.5 mg MTBE/g adsorbent, and the maximum adsorption capacities were 7.1 and 6.3 mg MTBE/g adsorbent for PFOAL A and PFOAL B… Show more

“…Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms have been employed previously to describe the adsorption of ATZ on GAC [7] and CNT [9]. BET (modified BET) and PMM adsorption models were successfully used to describe the adsorption of MTBE on perfluorooctyl alumina (PFOAL) [29] and ATZ on CNT [9], respectively.…”

“…Specific surface area and pore size of the base alumina support and prepared PFOAL catalysts were determined by physisorption of N 2 at its atmospheric boiling point. Details of the synthesis of PFOAL and its characterization are given elsewhere [27]. MTBE solutions used in ozonation experiments were prepared by dissolving appropriate amounts of MTBE in distilled water.…”
