Adsorption of DNA Nitrogenous Bases on Nanodiamond Particles: Theory and Experiment

Abstract: Efficiency of adsorption of nucleic acid nitrogenous bases (NBs) on carboxylated detonation nanodiamond (DND−COOH) particles in aqueous media at pH = 7.4−7.6 and pH = 13.4 was investigated using Raman spectroscopy and infrared (IR) absorption spectroscopy. A significant difference in the adsorption activity of NDs toward four different individual NBs, guanine, adenine, cytosine, and thymine, had been observed. The highest adsorption activity on DND−COOH was observed for cytosine and, in descending order, for a… Show more

“…It is known that when DNDs are suspended in water, the surface carboxyl groups of nanoparticles actively interact with water molecules, as a result of which hydrogen bonds in water are weakened. ,,, This effect can be observed by the changes in characteristics of the stretching band of the Raman scattering of water in DND suspensions.…”

“…Nanodiamonds are good adsorbents of various substances. The corresponding functionalization of the ND surface provides it with high selective adsorption activity for heavy metal ions, nitrates, , proteins and DNA molecules, drugs, , viruses, etc. It was shown by many authors that metal ions, nitrates, proteins, e.g., cytochrome c, or many drugs such as doxorubicin are adsorbed on the surface of nanodiamonds through physical adsorption.…”

“…For numerical simulations, we use a split‐valence basis set 6‐31G(d). For numerical modeling of intermolecular forces in molecular compound, we used the Gaussian 09 program complex, which is traditionally applied for investigations in various areas of computational physics and chemistry and approved by the authors and in other investigations.…”
