Adsorption of Cs(I) and Sr(II) on Bentonites with Different Compositions at Different pH

Abstract: This paper deals with adsorption regularities and mechanisms of nonradioactive Cs(I) and Sr(II) analogs on bentonites of different chemical and mineral composition from solutions of Cs and Sr nitrates with pH 3, 7, and 10 units at constant ionic strength. The bentonites were taken from the deposits Taganskoe (T), Dash-Salakhlinskoe (DS), Zyryanskoe (Z), and 10th Khutor (10H). The pH of bentonite aqueous suspensions, T and DS, exceeded 9 units. A less alkaline reaction was observed in bentonite suspensions Z an… Show more

“…FeCl 3 and AlCl 3 salts were added to the aqueous suspension of bentonite (the ratio of solid to the liquid phase is 1:10 and the pH of the aqueous extract of the suspension is 8) The amount of bentonite in the concentration of iron (aluminum) was 5 mmol Me 3+ /g. The suspension was then sonicated at 22 Hz for 3 min [20]. Next, 0.5 M NaOH solution was added to the prepared suspension ([OH − ]/[Me 3+ ] = 2.23) and during the day the suspension was subjected to aging at room temperature.…”

“…There are many studies on the adsorption of Cs(I) ions in many inorganic sorbents such as Ti–Ca–Mg phosphates (Ivanets et al 2020 ), sediment (Fuller et al 2014 ), bentonites (Izosimova et al 2022 ), and monetite (El-Din et al 2018 ). But there were no studies carried out in the sorption of Cs(I) onto a novel MoV@bentonite composite that had not been prepared before.…”

“…The issues of studying of sorption Cs + and Sr 2+ are very relevant and are reflected in modern publications [14][15][16][17][18]. Therefore, in this work, multisorption (Cs + , Sr 2+ ) by sorbents in the presence of an increasing content of competing ions (Na + ) was considered.…”
