Adsorption of carbon dioxide using activated carbon impregnated with Cu promoted by zinc

Abstract: In the present study, modified activated carbon (AC) was used in a fixed-bed column for CO 2 adsorption of gaseous mixtures. The adsorbents were prepared by impregnation two metals Cu and Zn on the surface of the acid modified AC using a two-stage modification. At the first stage, the samples of AC were pretreated by oxidizing agent (nitric acid) to increase the amount of oxygen surface groups and at the second stage, the acid modified AC were impregnated by two metal salts Cu and Zn on the surface to produce … Show more

“…The filtrate was analyzed for residual Zn(II) concentrations. The main parameters considered were pH (2, 3, 4, 6, 8, and 10), initial Zn(II) concentration (20,70, and 100 mg/L), adsorbent dose (1,2,4,6,8,10,15, and 20 g/L), solution temperature (10,20,30,40, and 50 C), mixing rate (0, 20, 50, 100, 150, 200, and 300 rpm), and contact time (2,5,10,15,20,30,40,50,60,70, and 80 min) in kinetic test. All tests were performed three times to ensure reproducibility of the results and the average number was reported as result.…”

“…Adsorption process onto the activated carbon is a superior technique as this process is efficient, easy-design and operate, and unaffected by toxicity as well as being inexpensive [4,5]. Activated carbon has been studied as an efficient adsorbent for removal of heavy metal ions from streams for several decades.…”

“…For ZnFe 2 O 4 /AC composite material, the diameter range was 20-50 nm, which implied that it was uniform distributed diameter sphere. is kind of rough structure was bene cial to improve the adsorption performance and also to the transmission of SO 2 gas on the adsorbent surface [13,17]. e EDS analysis of the fresh ZnFe 2 O 4 /AC composite material sample and sulfated sample is shown in Figure 7.…”

“…At this time, the N 2 molecules adsorb on the inner surface of the mesopores in a single layer to multiple layers. N 2 adsorption was the amount of physical adsorption, and the size of the speci c surface area Journal of Nanotechnologycorresponding to the modi ed activated carbon adsorption on the N 2 decreased with the corresponding reduction in the surface area [7,17]. .…”
