The adsorption kinetics of some local anesthetics, like dibucaine and tetracaine, and of stearic acid from bulk solutions at the oil/water interface was studied by using the pendent drop and ring methods. The anesthetics were dissolved in aqueous solutions (pH 2), and the fatty acid was dissolved in benzene, each biocompound at several different concentrations in bulk solutions. Kinetic equations for Langmuir mechanism of adsorption at oil/water interface were tested. The kinetic analysis shows that Langmuir kinetic approach describes the dynamic interfacial pressures within the limits of the experimental errors over a wide range of time and for different surfactant concentrations in bulk solutions. It is also concluded that this approach allows the calculation of the ratio of the adsorption and desorption rate constants of these biocompounds at the oil/water interface. Obtained results are in substantial agreement with earlier reported data for the surfactant adsorption as well as with their molecular structure.

This study investigated the influence of molecular structures of alcohols on adsorption behaviour. The adsorption isotherm of nonanols, octanols and hexanols at air–water interface was determined using the Wilhelmy plate method, in combination with an automatic dispenser. The experimental data were fitted with Frumkin–Langmuir isotherms by applying least‐squares techniques in Solver (MS Excel) to identify the adsorption parameters. These parameters can be used to quantify and compare the surface behaviours of all the investigated surfactants. It has been found that with the same concentration, the straight chain alcohols had stronger surface activity than the corresponding branched alcohols. The adsorption activity was also strongly related to the position of the hydroxyl group, with primary alcohols showing strongest adsorption. Overall, it was found that the surface activity decreased with increasing bulkiness of the alcohol structure. The results also highlighted the significance of low concentration data in determining the adsorption isotherm of alcohols. The dynamic adsorptions of 1-, 2-and 3-octanols at air/water interface were monitored using pendant drop method. It has been found that 1-octanol had strongest interfacial effects, yet slowest rate of adsorption. The experimental data were compared with diffusion-controlled and diffusion-kinetic-mixed models. Excepting 3-octanol at 1 mM, all systems required kinetic step. The effective kinetic constant was found varying with the concentration and the carbinol position. The results highlighted the influence of hydrophobic tails on the dynamic adsorption.Les adsorptions dynamiques de 1-, 2-et 3-octanolsà l'interface air/eau ontété suiviesà l'aide de la méthode de la goutte pendante. On a découvert que 1-octanol présente les effets interfaciaux les plus forts, mais le taux d'adsorption le plus lent. Les données expérimentales ontété comparées a l'aide de modèles par diffusion contrôlée età mélange diffusion-cinétique.À l'exception de 3-octanolà 1 mM, tous les systèmes ont nécessité uneétape cinétique. On a trouvé que la constante cinétique efficace varie avec la concentration et la position du carbinol. Les résultats ont mis eń evidence l'influence des queues hydrophobes sur l'adsorption dynamique.
