Adsorption‐Desorption Transient Measurements of the Initial Stages of Growth of Thin Ag Films on W

Abstract

On the basis of precise analysis of series adsorption-desorption transients (ADT)registered mass-spectrometricany (MS) around the transition pornts from adsorption equilibrium to real film growth, the critical parameters of phase formation process for Ag on Wcoverage, impingement rate and supersaturation were estimated. It was established that the film growth starts at coverages -(2.05 -2.15) x 10'' cm-' at hardly appreciable supersaturations, following the "Stranski-Krastanov" (SK) growth modethrough the formation of three-dimensional (3D) clusters on the top of complete second Ag layer.Die prazise Analyse einer ganzen Reihe von Adsorption-Desorptionstransienten,welche in der Umgebung der Ubergangspunkte von der Gleichgewichtsadsorption zum standigen Wachstum von Silberschichten auf der polykristallinen Wolframoberflache mit Hilfe der Massenspektrometrie registriert wurden,erlaubte, die kritischen Phasenbildungsparameter zu ermitteln, namlich Bedekkungsgrad, Kondensationsstrom und Ubersattigung. Es wurde festgestellt, daO das SchjFhtenwachstum bei einem Bedeckungsgrad von etwa (2.05 -2.15) x 10'' cm-' und kaum merkbaren Ubersattigungen beginnt, wobei ein Stranski-Krastanov-Wachstumsmechanismus zustandekommt, d. h. Bildung von drei-dimensionalen Keimen auf der vollkommenen zweiten Silberschicht.
