Adsorption Characteristics of Refrigerants for Thermochemical Energy Storage in Metal–Organic Frameworks

José Manuel Vicent-Luna,
Azahara Luna-Triguero

Abstract: The adsorption of fluorocarbons has gained significant importance as it is used as refrigerants in energy storage applications. In this context, the adsorption behavior of two low global warming potential refrigerants, R125 fluorocarbon and its hydrocarbon analogue R170, within four nanoporous materials, namely, MIL-101, Cu-BTC, ZIF-8, and UiO-66, has been investigated. By analyzing the validity of our models against experimental observations, we ensured the reliability of our molecular simulations. Our analys… Show more

“…Beyond predicting a host of high energy components, this study also uses trained machine learning models to identify descriptors which correlate strongly with the enthalpy of desorption. In a parallel study, Vincent-Luna et al employ classical Monte Carlo simulations to investigate the adsorption characteristics of two low-global warming potential refrigerants on four metal–organic framework adsorbates for refrigeration or heat pump cycles . Together, these studies demonstrate the utility of computational approaches in discovery of novel compositions and understanding the underlying mechanisms of thermochemical energy storage materials.…”
