Adsorption and photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline from water by kappa‐carrageenan and iron oxide nanoparticle‐filled poly (acrylonitrile‐co‐N‐vinyl pyrrolidone) composite gel

Abstract: Iron oxide nanoparticles (FeNPs) based magnetic hydrogels were prepared by in-situ co-precipitation of ferric/ferrous salts during copolymerization of acrylonitrile (AN) and N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone (NVP) at different molar ratios by emulsion polymerization in the presence of different wt% of kappacarrageenan (KC) and N, N 0 -methylenebisacrylamide (MBA)crosslinker. The hydrogels were characterized by FTIR, proton and13C-NMR, XPS, XRD, DTA-TGA, DLS, VSM, UV-Visible spectroscopy, TEM, EDX, PZC, compressive strengt… Show more

“…However, with increase in C o , it becomes sharp and τ BT also decreases at higher C o . In fact, at higher C o , the concentration gradient increases from the aqueous dye solution to the adsorbent polymer bed because of the concentration dependent diffusion in the fixed bed as also reported elsewhere 20,34 . The effect of different inlet dye flow rates ( Q t ) on the column adsorption of the two dyes are shown in Figure 9B.…”

“…Similarly, the polymer remains neutral in a solution pH = pH PZC and cationic in a solution pH < pH PZC. 20 The present composite adsorbent consists of partially neutralized polyacrylic/acrylates and PVA. The pK a value of pure PAA is 6.80, 33 that is, it will completely ionize to COO − in and above a solution pH of 6.80.…”

“…The solution pH, dose of the polymer, and initial concentration of tetracycline strongly influenced the efficiency of tetracycline removal. High regeneration and recyclability were among the benefits of nanocomposite adsorbent [ 77 ].…”
