Adsorption and chromatographic properties of some polymeric and ionic adsorbents

Abstract

Modification of the surface of adsorbents changes their adsorption and chromatographic properties.Polymeric adsorbents obtained by modifying styrene-divinylbenzene, polystyrene, and methacrylate matrices with amines, amine alcohols, and sulfuric acid as well as salt-based ionic adsorbents (chlorides and sulfates of bivalent metals) have been studied. The dependences of retention and adsorption values and thermodynamic characteristics on structural parameters and the chemical nature of the adsorbent surface have been found. The contributions to the total adsorption energy of specific interactions between adsorbates of different types and the adsorbent surface have been evaluated.
