AdS black holes, holography and localization

Abstract: I review some recent progresses in counting the number of microstates of AdS supersymmetric black holes in dimension equal or greater than four using holography. The counting is obtained by applying localization and matrix model techniques to the dual field theory. I cover in details the case of dyonic AdS 4 black holes, corresponding to a twisted compactification of the dual field theory, and I discuss the state of the art for rotating AdS 5 black holes.

“…with respect to the chemical potentials ω 1,2 and ∆ 1,2 and the Lagrange multiplier λ, which we have included to ensure the supersymmetric constraint on the index. This is consistent with the proposal in [64] and the derivation in the large N and |ω 1,2 | 1 limit in [13]. This leads to the equations…”

“…While the results of [6,9] and the subsequent developments on the interplay between the topologically twisted index and holography summarized in [8] offer important insights into the microscopic physics of AdS 4 black holes, there are still several open questions related to the holographic description of the topologically twisted index in (1.1). Our goal in this paper is to shed light on these questions and construct supergravity solutions which are the holographic dual of the partially twisted ABJM theory on S 1 × Σ g for arbitrary values of the deformations parameters (u, p) and whose regularized on-shell action agrees with the topologically twisted index (1.1).…”

“…This approach has now been generalized to include the microscopic counting of the entropy of rotating, electrically charged asymptotically AdS black holes in various dimensions [6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14]. These recent works, together with previous progress on magnetically charged asymptotically AdS black holes [15,16], provide a fairly complete and novel approach to microstate counting for asymptotically AdS black holes and mark the beginning of a new era in explorations of quantum gravity.…”
