A close relationship exists between the environment and agriculture. A change in either of them invariably affects the other. That is why environmentalists, the government and the non-governmental organisations have supported the development and adoption of Eco-friendly Farming Practices (EFFPs) by farming households. Earlier studies had indicated that adoption of EFFPs was low in some areas while other regions of Kenya and Embu County had successfully adopted these practices. However, even where there was a successful adoption of EFFPs, the type and number of EFFPs varied greatly. These inconsistencies in the type of EFFPs and the adoption of EFFPs necessitated this study. Therefore, this study carried out in Embu County sought to find out the influence of socioeconomic factors on the adoption of the EFFPs. Ex post facto research design was used in the study. Through multi-stage random sampling, 402 household heads were selected and all the 32 extension officers in the area were interviewed. Household head questionnaires, interview schedule and observation schedule were used for data collection. These research instruments were piloted, validated and their reliability established before data collection. Data was cleaned and entered into Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22 for analysis. Frequencies, Chi-square and regression model were used for analysis. Average income from agriculture, gender, farming experience, level of education, size of the farm and age were statistically significant (p<0.05) in influencing the adoption of EFFPs among households of Embu County. The study concluded that the socioeconomic factors were significant in influencing the adoption of EFFPs among households of Embu County. This implies that the household socioeconomic characteristics must be considered in designing effective environmental programmes in the County.

The scenario of the agricultural industry around the world is now shifting from conventional agriculture to sustainable agriculture. Good agricultural practice (GAP) has been introduced as a guide in implementing sustainable agriculture which takes into account the importance of economy, environment and society in producing quality food that is safe to eat. This study was conducted in Sekinchan, a high-yielding paddy cultivation area with the highest production per hectare in Malaysia. This study aims to evaluate MyGAP (Malaysian Good Agriculture Practice) implementation among farmers who have MyGAP certification and without MyGAP certification. In the first stage, GAP have been identified from document analysis based on the standard of GAP in Malaysia. In the second stage, fill out the checklist based on data obtained from observations and interviews with four farmers who have MyGAP certification and four farmers without MyGAP certification. The findings show that agricultural practices carried out by paddy farmers in the study area are at moderate level where only three out of four components of GAP were implemented which consist nine out of the 13 GAP elements. The contribution of this study can be used as input to stakeholders for the purpose of improving the existing MyGAP certification management procedures towards environmental friendly besides producing quality, healthy, and safe to eat food.

The adoption of sustainable agricultural practices is widely recognized as essential to ensure agricultural sustainability. This study analyzed factors influencing citrus farmers adoption of sustainable agricultural practices (SAPs) in the Northern Ghor of Jordan valley. The study used a quantitative approach. Simple random sampling was adopted to select 115 farmers in the study area. The study found that the largest proportion 44.4% of the citrus farmers had a fairly high adoption rate of SAPs while 13.0% of ones had high adoption of SAPs. In addition, the study revealed that age was the significant variable that positively influences farmers SAPs adoption, while experience, primary education, and tertiary education have a negative influence on the adoption of SAPs. The study recommends that special attention be given to older farmers to exploit their skills and receptive to implementing SAPs, encourage and guide farmers toward implementing sustainable agriculture techniques and suitable inputs by providing premium and incentive payments to them, and take deterrent penalties against farmers who using inappropriate and harmful applications, or who do not use appropriate applications.
