Adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies by organizations: a maturity levels perspective

Abstract: This study employs a structured literature analysis considering Industry 4.0 technologies and their adoption stages (intention, adoption, implementation, routinization, continuance, and diffusion). We identify the technology adoption stage for each technology type, which in turn supports a maturity level categorization, as well as future research suggestions and challenging open research questions. By considering an integrated view of all the adoption stages of Industry 4.0 key technologies, we reveal the key … Show more

“…Future research is required to ascertain whether temperamental changes due to psychological maturation in older individuals drive their persistence in using inaccessible technologies, or if the technological aids assisting their daily lives lead them to overlook accessibility challenges. Understanding the determinants of technology usage in older populations can not only shape strategies to enhance technology demand but also offer insights into the technology development phase [ 21 ].…”

“…To organize and make sense of the exploratory data, the stages-of-growth model is employed, which is a popular theoretical perspective for studying the path of new technology adoption and maturity in organizations (Solli-Saether and Gottschalk, 2010; Wendler, 2012). The stages-of-growth model has been used to study the adoption of social media (Effing and Spil, 2016), digital transformation (Ilin et al ., 2022), industry 4.0 (Queiroz et al ., 2022), and blockchain (Akbar et al ., 2022), among others, in organizations. This widespread use of the theory underscores its value in explaining the adoption and maturity of innovative technologies among organizations.…”

“…Each focuses on a specific supply chain function or digital technology [44]. Whereas Queiroz et al proposed a new perspective on categorizing maturity levels [45]. As part of the analysis presented in [46], the authors proposed possible ways of implementing digital transformation for specific supply chain models.…”
