Purpose This study aims to understand New Zealand sheep farmers’ readiness toward sustainability transition by assessing their intentions of transition and adoption of sustainability tools, with information collection considered to mediate the intention–adoption relationship.Design/methodology/approach Based on the data collected from a survey of New Zealand sheep farmers in 2021, the empirical analysis was developed to investigate farmers’ perceptions of and attitudes toward readiness to move toward a sustainability transition. Structural equation modeling associated with principal component analysis was used to empirically test the theory of planned behavior constructs.Findings The results show that pressure from the public and the sheep industry, and the perceived controls of transition drive the intention of sustainability transition; farmers with higher intention of sustainability transition are found to be more likely to adopt sustainability tools. However, there is an attitude–behavior gap, wherein positive attitudes toward sustainability transition may not lead to a higher likelihood of adopting sustainability tools. There is no evidence of the mediating role of information collection on the intention–adoption relationship, while a positive effect was found in information collection on the adoption of sustainability tools.Practical implications The empirical evidence indicates that policymakers need to help increase the awareness of sustainable production and help farmers overcome barriers to achieving sustainable production by finding ways to turn intentions into adoption.Originality/value Being the first attempt to empirically assess farmers’ readiness toward sustainability transition, the study fills the gap of limited understanding of the link between sustainability transition intention and sustainable tools adoption in sustainability transition.

Purpose The paper aims to define a model for rural development, able to stimulate collaborations between actors involved in the agrifood chain and based on digital technologies as enabling factors for such collaborations. Design/methodology/approach An exploratory research, based on a qualitative approach, is conducted, using both constructivist grounded theory and Gioia methodology. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and roundtables administered to Italian key players. Findings The authors identify five actions (definition of territorial identity, involvement of internal and external supply chain actors, definition of quality standards, cooperation intra and infra supply chains, communication through technology) for collaboration in the development of rural areas that policymakers should encourage and actors in the supply chains must implement. The paper also entails both theoretical and practical implications. From the theoretical point of view, this study contributes to the literature on the relationship between agrifood, local development and the role of technologies. From the managerial point of view, this paper provides insights for policymakers to define strategies and actions aimed at developing collaborations between actors involved in the agrifood chain and leveraging digital technologies to support rural development. Originality/value The paper proposes a framework for the collaboration of the actors of the agrifood sector and related food tourism that could be the basis for the development of a digital platform able to connect all the subjects involved in rural development.

Penelitian ini bertujuan melihat efisiensi aplikasi klik indomaret pada konsumen di Cianjur, serta melihat hubungan pengaruh dari aplikasi klik indomaret terhadap keputusan pembelian produk-produk pertanian dan produk-produk olahan dari bahan pertanian. Metode penelitian menggunakan kuantitatif deskriptif dengan data primer yang diperoleh dengan cara wawancara dan membagikan form kuesioner. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan acak dan random pada konsumen-konsumen di Cianjur, dengan tetap melihat penyebaran pada wilayah, usia, pendidikan dan gender. Data yang terkumpul sebanyak 270 sampel yang memenuhi kriteria uji asumsi klasik. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa aplikasi klik indomaret telah efisien didalam mendukung penjualan dan pemasaran, namun hanya sebatas pelengkap dan secara omset masih kalah jauh dengan sistem penjualan secara offline. Hasil regresi menunjukan angka signifikan positif, yaitu klik indomaret mempunyai pengaruh positif pada keputusan pembelian untuk produk-produk pertanian, dengan nilai pengaruh yang tinggi atau sebesar 97,2%.Saran dari penelitian ini adalah, perlunya peningkatan layanan klik indomaret dan promosi yang lebih gencar, serta perlu penelitian lanjutan tentang keinginan konsumen yang lebih lengkap. Sehingga bisa tergambar secara lengkap produk pertanian yang diinginkan oleh konsumen.
