Adopting environmentally-friendly certifications: transaction cost and capabilities perspectives within the Italian wine supply chain

Abstract: Purpose Environmentally-friendly certifications have increased over the past decade within food supply chains. Although a large body of literature has explored the drivers leading firms to adopt such certifications, it has not closely examined the strategic motivations associated with their adoption. This paper aims to investigate an environmentally-friendly certification, VIVA, examining its role as an alternative form of supply chain governance. The aim is to investigate the drivers affecting the adoption of… Show more

“…However, our methodology expands upon these econometric approaches by carefully defining the latent quantities elicited through survey data and integrating multiple modeling stages into a single probabilistic construct. Following Stranieri et al (2021), we begin by relating the polytomous survey data to the two unobserved features of interest: internal risk and external risk. Next, the levels of risks enter the conditional mean of a compositional data (Dirichlet) model that links the share of spot market, hybrid, or vertically integrated product sourcing to a vector of covariates, plus the previously defined latent characteristics.…”

“…The difficulty in evaluating the efficiency of some functions performed in compliance with contractual responsibilities is referred to as behavioural uncertainty. Behaviour uncertainty is defined as the lack of knowledge and uncertainty relative to the conduct of external parties participating in the transactions [75]. The challenge of anticipating the intents and behaviours of outside parties that serve as partners in strategic partnerships is known as behavioural uncertainty.…”

“…This type of DCsS often involves collaboration with suppliers (primarily by exchanging information and best practices) to develop new environmentally friendly products or services and correspondingly adapt supply-chain operations.
