Adopting and Evaluating Service Oriented Architecture in Industry

Abstract: Abstract-In this paper, we present a descriptive case study covering the re-engineering and furhter evolution of adopting service oriented architecture (SOA) in industry. The goal of this case study is to identify the possible benefits and bottlenecks of adopting SOA, as well as to come up with best practices and research directions based on real-life experience gained in IT industry. The case involves an application portfolio of over 700 systems for a company in the transport sector.First, the case study invo… Show more

“…Twenty‐nine percent of the primary studies, as a part of their migration approach, address this conversion. Some externalize goals (Umar and Zordan ), some business processes , and some constraints . Combination of problem‐related and solution‐related knowledge . This conversion addresses transformation of explicit problem‐related knowledge (e.g., business processes) to solution‐related knowledge (e.g., service compositions).…”

“…Flattening the organizational structures using the online portals that transform the processes from vertical forms where departments acts independently to horizontal forms where departments share common information. (Parycek et al, 2014) Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) is another strategy that can be used to create OGD platforms that can be used to share government applications (Nasr, Gross, & van Deursen, 2010). The flexibility and power of SOA enables government to create and install new services across different departments and platforms.…”

“…The flexibility and power of SOA enables government to create and install new services across different departments and platforms. SOA enables integration of other systems to the OGD portals, since the use of SOA components reduces complexity of the system and increases reusability (Lee & Kwak, 2011;Nasr et al, 2010).…”

“…Service-oriented architecture (SOA) has been widely accepted by many organisations which recognise its full potential value in delivering improved business agility, increased information technology (IT) flexibility, enhanced service reusability and reducing operational cost [1,2]. This is supported by a survey report which indicated that nearly 66 per cent of organisations succeeded in their SOA initiatives [3].…”
