“…Some of these work reviewed several adolescent problem areas, and others focused on drug abuse or a related content domain (e.g., delinquency) only. These selected reviews were the following (in chronological order of their publication): (1) the review of more than 100 prevention programs related to substance abuse, school dropout, juvenile delinquency, and teen pregnancy by Dryfoos (1990); (2) the overview of the adolescent substance abuse prevention literature by Logan (1991); (3) the review of school-based curricula for drug prevention by Elias, Gager, and Leon (1997); (4) the meta-analysis of effective interventions for juvenile offenders by Lipsey and Wilson (1998); (5) the review of school and community prevention programs that promote youth competence by Weissberg and Greenberg (1998); (6) the process evaluation of common implementation strategies for implementing the Life Skills Training drug prevention program in schools by Fagan and Mihalic (2003); and (7) the publication by Nation et al (2003) in which nine general characteristics of effective intervention elements common across four content areas (i.e., substance abuse, risky sexual behavior, school failure, and juvenile delinquency and violence) were identified.…”
