Adolescent Obesity Modeling: A Framework of Socio-Economic Analysis on Public Health

Abstract: Bayesian Structural Equation Modeling (SEM-Bayesian) was applied across different research areas to model the correlation between manifest and latent variables. The primary purpose of this study is to introduce a new framework of complexity to adolescent obesity modeling based on adolescent lifestyle through the application of SEM-Bayesian. The introduced model was designed based on the relationships among several factors: household socioeconomic status, healthy food intake, unhealthy food intake, lifestyle, b… Show more

“…An important place is given to fundamental research on certain aspects of health diagnostics and monitoring: interdisciplinary research of health mechanisms and affecting factors (Kooiker & Christiansen, 1995;van Doorslaer et al, 1997;Kogan, 206); creation of databases of valeological information (Nikiforova, 2011;Tolmacheva, 2015;European Database.., 2018); mathematical models (Kalachikova & Korchagina, 2015;Petrash & Murtazina, 2018;Jenatabadi et al, 2021;Wedlund & Kvedar, 2021); expert systems of evaluating health indicators (Allegra et al, 2020;Jespersen et al, 2021); and intellectual health support (Meyer, 2010;Chestnov et al, 2015;Kakani, 2020;Bent et al, 2021).…”

“…The prevalence of obesity in the United States has reached alarming levels, posing a significant global health concern. 1 Recent data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) reveals a substantial increase in obesity rates between 2013 and 2018. The prevalence of adult obesity rose from 34.9% in 2013‐2014 to 42.8% in 2017–2018, representing a significant jump.…”

“…Physical activity participation is a key enabler of health indicators such as obesity and health-related physical fitness [31][32][33]. Obesity is described as "abnormal or excessive fat accumulation which may impair health" and is measured as greater than two standard deviations above the World Health Organization Growth Reference Median [34] (p. 1). Although a significant body of evidence indicates the preventability of obesity in adolescents, over 340 million adolescents worldwide and one in every five in the Republic of Ireland are considered overweight or obese [35,36].…”
