Adolescent Compensated Dating in Hong Kong

“…Other research revealed that some women regarded compensated dating as a way to fulfil their sexual excitement, to support their materialistic lifestyle, and to affirm their worth or capability [38]. They also tend to think that compensated dating is a good way to search for passionate relationship and warmth, and prioritize material and pleasure seeking over other concerns [5, 39]. Findings further confirm that women engaging in compensated dating are from a unique population that warrants special attention.…”

“…There is no official statistics regarding adolescent sexuality in Macau, but we believe that the situation should be similar to that of Hong Kong. When considering the fact that early sexual initiation has been widely recognized as an important social and health issue (e.g., [13,49,85]), and that coital experience among adolescents below the age of eighteen is violating the sexual norms in Chinese societies [14], we have included sexual intercourse in the measurement of sexual conduct. Further research may be needed to strengthen the construct validity of sexual misconduct.…”

These adolescents were more likely to exhibit risky sexual behavior and resulted in unintended pregnancy [13].…”

“…Crime scripts have also been utilised on cybercrimes such as account takeover (Haelterman 2016), mapping trolling on a cyber-attack journey (Somer et al 2018) and employee computer crime (Willison and Siponen 2009). In addition, crime scripts have helped explain the crime-commission process of sexual offences including adult-to-child sexual abuse (Deslauriers-Varin and Beauregard 2010; Leclerc 2013a; Leclerc et al 2011); child sex trafficking (Brayley et al 2011); compensated dating (Li 2015); human trafficking for sexual exploitation (Savona et al 2014); sex offenders (Beauregard et al 2007); sexual offences (Cook et al 2019); stranger rape against women (Chiu and Leclerc 2017); acquaintance rape against women (Chiu and Leclerc 2017) and Internet-mediated sex trafficking (Lavorgna 2014). The application of crime scripts across different crime categories demonstrates that they are not only appropriate for describing the crime-commission process of physical (traditional crime) but also cyberdependent and cyber-enabled crime.…”
