“…At constant SF, increasing ER implies less O 2 supplied to the gasifier, resulting in H 2 O-rich mixtures that are favorable for the reaction of char with H 2 O (reforming reaction) to produce H 2 and CO. Also, higher ER leads to lower combustion temperatures (peak temperatures), which are more appropriate for the production of CO 2 than CO, via char oxidation (reaction R 3 ). Oxidation of char to produce CO and CO 2 via reactions R 2 and R 3 is competitive, and their reaction rates are very dependent on the temperature; low temperatures favor the production of CO 2 through reaction R 3 [9]. Less production of CO implies more O 2 free to react with remaining char and hence more CO 2 ( Figure 11).…”
