Internationally, HIV-related stigma and crystal methamphetamine (meth) use have been described as barriers to treatment adherence among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (gbMSM). Crystal meth use has been increasing among gbMSM in the Metropolitan Area of Mexico City (MAMC). Therefore, this study aimed to determine the association between HIV-related stigma and HIV treatment adherence among gbMSM who use crystal meth in the MAMC. This study was undertaken as part of an exploratory study of crystal meth use in the MAMC. The data were collected from September to December 2021 through an encrypted online survey. Participants (n = 89) were gbMSM adults living with HIV who reported crystal meth use in the past month that were recruited through an online snowball sampling. The online survey included questions about HIV treatment adherence, sexual behaviors, the Alcohol, Smoking, and Substance Involved Screening Test, and the HIV-Related Stigma Mechanisms Scale. Logistic regression analyses assessed the association between HIV-related stigma and HIV treatment adherence. The multivariate logistic regression model showed that, controlling for health insurance [adjusted odds ratio (AOR) = 0.13; 95% confidence intervals (CI) = 0.02–0.59] and educational level (AOR = 0.16; 95% CI = 0.02–0.88), non-adherence to HIV treatment was independently associated with higher HIV-related stigma (AOR = 1.06; 95% CI = 1.01–1.12). Public health policies must include HIV-related stigma and substance use in treating gbMSM with HIV.

La Enfermedad renal crónica terminal es considerada una pandemia a nivel mundial. En Chile un 32% de los recursos económicos en salud son destinados a su tratamiento, siendo la hemodiálisis la terapia, más utilizada en estos usuarios. Esta patología modifica todo el equilibrio de la persona, sometiéndola a diversos factores estresantes y provocándole alteraciones en el ámbito físico, psicológico y social, repercutiendo directamente en la salud mental de estos usuarios. El objetivo de esta investigación fue identificar la salud mental y su relación con las características biosociodemográficas en los pacientes hemodializados en una unidad de cuidado en Talcahuano, Chile. Se realizó un estudio cuantitativo descriptivo, correlacional y transversal. Los datos se recolectaron a través de una entrevista. El instrumento utilizado fue la Escala de Golberg para medir salud mental más variables biosociodemográficas. Los resultados obtenidos mostraron que: de un total de 53 pacientes, un 58,5% presentó ausencia de psicopatología, 26,4% presencia y el 15,1% sospecha; un 56,6% varones y el 44,4% mujeres, un 62,3% se encontraba en pareja, un 50,9 % poseía estudios de nivel medio, el 83% se encontraban pensionado, la media del tiempo en hemodiálisis fue de 94,2 meses. La presencia de diabetes mellitus se relacionó con una mayor incidencia de sospecha psicopatología. Este estudió permitió concluir que, la sospecha y/o presencia de psicopatología se relacionó con edad avanzada, sexo femenino, ingresos económicos bajos, mayor tiempo en hemodiálisis, estar pensionado y padecer diabetes. La ausencia se relacionó con mayor nivel educacional y trabajo remunerado.

Objective: The goal of this study was to report on the development and early usability of a new interactive mHealth app for reducing cardiovascular risk in primary care patients of low socioeconomic status attending clinics in Chile. Design: Mixed-methods design with qualitative and quantitative components. Setting: Three Chilean primary care clinics located in one urban (Santiago) and two rural areas (San Clemente and Chiguayante). Each clinic serves a population of about 24,000 people of generally low socioeconomic status with an average of 8.5 years of education. Methods: A qualitative co-design participatory framework was used to develop the Mi Salud-APS mHealth app. Three iterations of virtual workshops were held with healthcare providers and patient participants to develop the new app. Once developed, the usability phase identified, invited and followed up for 3 months a sample of primary care patients with moderate ( N = 119) or high ( N = 329) cardiovascular risk. Results: A total of 24 healthcare providers and 24 patients participated in the developmental workshops. Three emergent categories represented the core attributes for the mHealth app design: ‘Friendly’, ‘Interactive’ and ‘Pertinent’. In the usability phase of the sample of 448 patients, 98% downloaded the app, and 64.6% of them logged in and used it for an average of 1.46 (0.5–10) times weekly. Conclusion: Findings suggest that patient and healthcare provider contributions to the development of the mHealth app accurately reflect the interests and experiences of both groups and together helped achieve the high usability levels observed among primary care patients enrolled in clinics in underserved communities.
