Objectives: The aim of the present study is to evaluate the knowledge as well as the rate of adherence to supplement medications. Methods: The cross-sectional study was carried out at a teaching hospital for obstetrics and gynecology in Karbala with 100 pregnant women at the second trimester, data were collected using two questionnaires, one about knowledge and other about adherence to micronutrient supplementation, laboratory tests were used to determine the levels of Hemoglobin and plasma level of calcium, and vitamin D. Results: the overall adherence rate to supplement medication among pregnant women was low in spite of good knowledge score. Biochemical laboratory results showed more than half of participants were found to have haemoglobin Less than normal level. Most of participant confirmed to have deficiency of plasma 25-Hydroxy-vitaminD, and more than two third of them have normal calcium level. Conclusion: the present study revealed that most pregnant women have a poor adherence to micronutrient supplementation, therefore there is a need for interventional strategies to optimize adherence.

Objective: This study aimed to discover the cytotoxic effect of YH239-EE and YH239 alone and their enantiomer potency in cytotoxic effect on the MCF7 cell line. Methods: We used the cytotoxic study on MDM2 cell lines by detecting the percentage of apoptosis and necrosis by annexin v methods. Result: This result shows that YH239-EE causes more apoptosis and necrosis 40% in comparison to YH239 without ethyl ester, about 4.92 %, and The (+) enantiomer of YH239-EE demonstrated a markedly higher induction of apoptosis and necrosis (84.48%) in MCF7 cells compared to the (-) enantiomer (48.71%). Conclusion: The ethyl ester group in YH239-EE might play a crucial role in enhancing the compound’s ability to induce cell death, and The high efficacy of the (+) enantiomer of YH239-EE in inducing cell death in MCF7 cells suggests it may be a more promising therapeutic candidate for breast cancer treatment, specifically for subtypes represented by MCF7 cells.

Background: Breast cancer is a malignant tumor arising from epithelial cells of glandular lacteferons ducts or terminal ductilobular unit (TDLM) of the breast which is affected by the oxidative stress and the defensive mechanisms against it. Objective: to reveal the correlation between the levels of superoxide dismutase (CuZn SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), glutathione reductase (GR), reduced glutathione (GSH) and sulfhydryl groups (SH) with breast cancer with/without metast. Methods: A case control study was performed on 30 female patients with metastasized breast cancer, 30 female patients with non- metastasized breast cancer and 30 female patients with benign breast tumor. All patients were recruited from Al-Karama teaching hospital at Wasit city in Iraq, for the period from October 2021 to February 2022. Results: The levels of GSH-PX, GR, GSH, and sulfhydral groups were significantly reduced in breast cancer patients in comparison with healthy controls whereas SOD levels were upregulated in breast cancer patients in comparison with healthy controls subjected to the current study. Conclusions: It is concluded that the activities of superoxide dismutase (CuZn SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), glutathione reductase (GR), as well as concentrations of reduced glutathione (GSH) and sulfhydryl groups (SH) have a significant impact on the pathogenisis and progression of breast cancer.
