Adenovirus infections in immuncompromised patients

Abstract: Az emberi adenovírusok modellként szolgálnak genetikai kutatásokban és génterápiában. Show more

“…But HAdV7, a member of the B1 subspecies, has been identified in epidemics to be highly virulent and is associated with clinical manifestations of considerable severity, including residual lung damage and fatal outcomes (810). This pathogen has been found in outbreaks in the United States and Asia and has become a global concern (1113).…”

“…Some serotypes can cause serious ocular illness such as epidemic keratoconjunctinitis. In immunocompromised individuals, especially in pediatric hematopoietic stem cell transplant patients, Ads can cause severe disseminated multi-organ infections which are sometimes lethal ( Echavarria, 2008 , Ison, 2006 , Lion, 2014 , Matthes-Martin et al, 2012 , Matthes-Martin et al, 2013 , Sandkovsky et al, 2014 , Stercz et al, 2012 , Wold and Ison, 2013 ).…”

“…These patients, unlike immunocompetent ones, cannot clear the virus infection, and thus, it can develop into a multiorgan or generalized disease. Especially at risk are pediatric allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) patients, in which the incidence of Ad infection is between 3 and 47% and the mortality rate is considerable (3,(5)(6)(7)(8)(9)(10). In allogeneic HSCT patients with a rising load of Ad in peripheral blood (as determined by quantitative PCR [qPCR]), despite antiviral therapy, mortality can approach 100% (9).…”
