Abstract:Adenomyoma of the small intestine is an extremely rare entity characterized by a mixture of glandular structures lined by columnar epithelium, with intervening bundles of smooth muscle. We report a case of adenomyoma of the jejunum that caused intussusception in an adult. Histologically, the morphologic features are typical of adenomyoma and are noteworthy for the extensive cystic change.

We report an unusual case of a 5-month-old girl who suffered an ileo-ileal intussusception that was not reduced by hydrostatic reduction. Surgical treatment revealed that the leading point was a tumor 1.5 cm in diameter. Myoepithelial hamartoma was diagnosed histopathologically. The literature indicates that MEH rarely causes small-bowel intussusception in childhood.

Adenomyoma of the gastrointestinal tract is a benign tumor that is usually found in the stomach and is occasionally found in the duodenum and biliary tract; however, it is very rarely found in the small intestine. Adenomyomas of the small intestine that usually present with intussusception are very rare in children. In this study, a case of ileal adenomyoma presenting with intussusception was described.
