“…From a review of ACC cases, around 30% of parotid, 30% of submandibular, and 40% of minor salivary-gland tumours, but only around 1% of sublingual-gland tumours are of this type (Cawson et al 1998). ACCs arising centrally within the mandible would appear to be very rare, with, to the best of our knowledge, only about 20 such cases having been reported previously in the English-language medical literature (Bumsted 1955, Bradley 1968, Dhawan et al 1970, Slavin & Mitchell 1971, Burkes 1975, Yoshimura et al 1978, Kaneda et al 1982, Gingell & Siegel 1983, Hirota & Osaki 1989, Johnson et al 1989, Brookstone et al 1990, Brookstone & Huvos 1992, Clark et al 2000, Favia et al 2000, Martinez-Madrigal et al 2000, Abbott 2001. It is also noteworthy that three of the previously reported mandibular ACC cases occurred in the periapical region (Burkes 1975, Favia et al 2000, Abbott 2001).…”
