“…The diagnostic and prognostic value for detection of anti-CCP antibodies was shown to be specific to RA patients in various populations (Dubucquoi et al, 2004;Vallbracht and Helmke, 2005;Gupta et al, 2009). In the present study, 56.8% of the RA patients were found positive to anti-CCP antibodies while 77.8% were positive to RF antibodies.…”

“…The etiology of inflammatory arthritis has been most extensively studied in RA, in which association with specific MHC II alleles and infiltration of synovial tissue by CD4 ϩ T cells suggest a role for CD4 ϩ T cells (2). However, a role for autoantibodies is also implied by the association between disease prognosis and the presence of autoantibodies to IgG (rheumatoid factor) and to cyclic citrullinated peptide (CCP) (2,3). RA shows by far its strongest genetic linkages with particular HLA genes, especially those encoding specific ␤-chains of the HLA-DR molecule (2,4), and recent evidence has shown that specific polymorphisms of the PTPN22 molecule (a phosphatase that controls the degree of T cell activation) can also contribute to RA susceptibility (5).…”

“…I nflammatory arthritis can develop in a variety of human autoimmune diseases (including systemic lupus erythematosus, inflammatory bowel disease, and psoriasis) and is the hallmark of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) 3 (1, 2). RA patients develop chronic inflammatory arthritis with progressive damage to articular structures, including cartilage, bone, tendons, and ligaments and can also develop extra-articular manifestations affecting vasculature and organs such as the lungs (2).…”

“…Anti-CCP has been reported to be better than RF, to predict the disease activity over 3 years. In addition, percentages of the anti-CCP-positive patients were reported to be higher among patients with severe disease activity than in those with mild disease activity (19,20). Although Kastbom et al (21) did not observe a significant difference between anti-CCP-positive and anti-CCP-negative patients in number of the total swollen joints, CRP level and DAS-28; they defined a positive correlation between the incidence of anti-CCP positive and the number of met ACR criteria.…”
