Die chronische Nebenniereninsuffizienz ist trotz adäquater Hormonersatzstrategien nach wie vor mit einer erhöhten Mortalität assoziiert. Der Grund hierfür liegt im Auftreten von Addison-Krisen, hervorgerufen durch einen Zustand eines akuten Cortisolmangels in erster Linie durch erhöhten Bedarf (beispielsweise bei Gastroenteritis, Infektionskrankheiten, inadäquater Medikamenteneinnahme etc.).
