Abstract. Adaptivity in Process Management Systems (PMS) is key to their successful applicability in pratice. Approaches have already been developed to ensure the system correctness after arbitrary process changes at the syntactical level. However, still errors may be caused at the semantical level. Therefore, the integration of application knowledge will flag a milestone in the development of process management technology. In this paper, we introduce a framework for defining semantic constraints over processes in such a way that they can express real-world application knowledge. On the other hand, these constraints are still manageable concerning the effort for maintenance and semantic process verification. This can be used, for example, to detect semantic conflicts when applying process changes (e.g., drug incompatibilities). In order to enable the PMS to deal with such semantic conflicts we also introduce a notion of semantic correctness and discuss how to (efficiently) verify semantic correctness in the context of process changes.

Abstract-This work is focused on the stationary behavior of a document processing system. This problem can be handled using workflow models; knowing that the techniques used in workflow modeling heavily rely on constrained Petri nets. When using a document processing system, one wishes to know how the system behaves when a new document enters in order to give precise support to the manager's decision. This requires a good analysis of the system's performances. But according to many authors, stochastic models, specifically waiting lines should be used instead of Petri nets at a strategic level in order to lead such analysis. The need to study a new model comes from the fact that we wish to provide tools for a decision maker to lead accurate performance analysis in a document processing system. In this paper, amodel for document management systems in an organization is studied. The model has a static and a dynamic component. The static one is a graph which represents transitions between processing units. The dynamic component is composed of a Markov processes and a network of queues which model the set of waiting-lines at each processing unit. Key performance indicators are defined and studied point-wise and on the average. Formulas are given for some example models.

SUMMARYCollaborative business has been increasingly developing with the environment of globalization and advanced information technologies. In a collaboration environment with multiple organizations, participants from different organizations always have different views about modeling the overall business process due to different knowledge and cultural backgrounds. Moreover, flexible support, privacy preservation and process reuse are important issues that should be considered in business process management across organizational boundaries. This paper presents a novel approach of modeling interorganizational business process for collaboration. Our approach allows for modeling loosely coupled interorganizational business process considering different views of organizations. In the proposed model, organizations have their own local process views of modeling business process instead of sharing pre-defined global processes. During process cooperation, local process of an organization can be invisible to other organizations. Further, we propose the coordination mechanisms for different local process views to detect incompatibilities among organizations. We illustrate our proposed approach by a case study of interorganizational software development collaboration.
