Adaptive Switch Matrix for PV Module Connections to Avoid Permanent Cross-Tied Link in PV Array System Under Non-Uniform Irradiations

Abstract: In this paper, the significance of cross-tied link between the solar photovoltaic (PV) modules in an array during partial shading conditions (PSCs) is introduced. In order to conduct a detailed analysis, twenty numbers of 20W PV modules (4×5) are arranged in a series-parallel (SP) configuration. The change in the pre-arranged SP configured PV array is implemented using a cross-link matrix switch between parallels based on shadow patterns. The switch matrix based modified PV array configuration is called Adapti… Show more

“…where T r is the reference temperature of SPVC, I rr is the reverse saturation current of SPVC at temperature T r , and E Gap is the energy across the band gap of semiconductor material. Figure 3 displays the schematic diagram of the SPVC, solar photovoltaic module (SPVM), and solar photovoltaic array [29]. Solar photovoltaic cells can be connected in parallel and series to form an SPVM, whereas a solar photovoltaic array is composed of multiple SPVMs with series and parallel connections.…”

“…Recent publications concentrate on the traditional techniques combined with the I(V) characteristic curve of PV systems to improve efficiency and speed due to simplicity and low cost. By using the FF value to determine the power loss between the MPP under standard conditions and when shaded, document [5] has provided a solution to continuously compare actual working parameters with standard conditions to adjust the working position. While the authors in [6][7][8] proposed a solution to approximate the current at MPP (I mp = k i I sc ) to improve MPPT efficiency, convergence rate, and output stability.…”
