Adaptation of a microsimulation model at the municipality level: demographic and employment evolution in the Altmark region of Germany

Abstract: Adapting microsimulation models to specific regions is a challenging task. This is especially true when aiming to simulate very low regional levels, such as municipalities, owing to anonymity restrictions or simply nonexistence of data at the required levels. In this study, we present a process to define the dynamics of the PRototypical policy Impact on Multifunctional Activities in rural municipalities (PRIMA) conceptual microsimulation model for the HohenbergKrusemark municipality network in the Altmark regi… Show more

“…Although there are few studies of rural youth employment prospects, previous literature has noted that rural youths are more dependent on temporary jobs and/or occupations without promotion opportunities (Hodge et al 2002;Midgley and Bradshaw 2006;Culliney 2014). Additionally, commuting between rural places of residence and urban places of employment is commonly observed among most European countries (Eliasson et al, 2003;Moss et al, 2004;Unay-Gailhard, and Baqueiro-Espinosa, 2015).…”

“…Because there are many possible combinations of values and geometric pattern configurations of the trails, testing all the combinations is not viable. The problem could be treated as an optimization problem where (near) optimal solution width can be determined with genetic algorithm-based techniques similar to the projects of Unay-Gailhard and Baqueiro-Espinosa (2015) or Kim et al (2005). Nevertheless, the time frame of this research followed an empirical process to find a combination of those values that can bring a good approximation of the simulated pedestrian with the real world.…”
