“…Consequently, body dissatisfaction items relating to traditionally feminine appearance ideals (e.g., flat stomach) may be less relevant to boys (Darcy et al, 2012; Murray et al, 2017). Concurrent validity of the EDE‐Q was assessed via correlations of the total and subscale scores with two measures of body image (the Weight and Appearance subscales of the Body Esteem Scale for Adolescents and Adults [BESAA], Garbett, Lewis‐Smith, Chaudhry, Uglik‐Marucha, et al, n.d.; Mendelson, Mendelson, & White, 2001; and the Children's Figure Rating Scale [CFRS], Tiggemann & Wilson‐Barrett, 1998) and a measure of internalization of appearance ideals (Internalization‐General subscale of the Sociocultural Attitudes Toward Appearance Questionnaire [SATAQ‐3], Lewis‐Smith, Garbett, Chaudhry, Uglik‐Marucha, et al, in press; Thompson, van den Berg, Roehrig, Guarda, & Heinberg, 2004). It was hypothesized that the total and subscale scores of the EDE‐Q would be negatively correlated with the total and subscales scores of the BESAA, and positively correlated with the CFRS and the Internalization‐General subscale of the SATAQ‐3.…”
