Acylphloroglucinol Derivatives from Hypericum andinum: Antidepressant-like Activity of Andinin A

Abstract: A new dimeric acylphloroglucinol derivative, andinin A (1), was isolated from the underground plant parts of Hypericum andinum, along with three known dimeric acylphloroglucinols, uliginosin A (2), uliginosin B (3), and isouliginosin B (4). The structure of 1 was elucidated using 1D and 2D NMR and MS experiments and by comparison with previously reported data for Hypericum dimeric acylphloroglucinols. Andinin A (1) displayed antidepressant-like activity in a mouse forced-swimming test when administered orally … Show more

“…arenarium 23 , kunzeagin A (a dimeric flavonol glycoside) from Kunzea ambigua 24 , gerberinol from Diospyros kaki var. sylvestris 25 , and four acylphloroglucinol derivatives from Hypericum andinum 26 . As far as we know, very few of these natural dimers was identified in microbial kingdom, that is phaeochromycins F from Streptomyces sp.…”

“…Hypericum species belonging to Brathys and Trigynobrathys sections are an important source of dimeric acylphloroglucinols. Until now, 36 compounds were isolated from these species [1][2][3]9]. Hypericum denudatum afforded a new dimeric phloroglucinol, denudatin A (1), and three compounds that have already been described, hyperbrasilol A (3), uliginosin B (4), and isouliginosin B (5).…”

“…Cariphenone A (1) and uliginosin B (3) were isolated from H. carinatum as described by Bernardi et al (2005). Isouliginosin B (2) was isolated from H. andinum as described by Ccana-Ccapatinta et al (2014, 2015). The identity and purity of the isolated compounds were confirmed by 1 H and 13 C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.…”
