Acyclic Arylamine-Based Ionophores as Potentiometric Sensors for Zn2+ and Ni2+ Ions

Abstract: Abstract:Two receptor molecules N-(2-nitrophenyl)benzene-1,2-diamine (DPA) and N,N-bis(2-nitrophenyl)benzene-1,2-diamine (TPA) are proposed as Zn 2+ and Ni 2+ -selective electrodes, respectively. The two electrodes respond to Zn 2+ and Ni 2+ ions with the detection limits of 1.3 × 10 −6 M and 2.8 × 10 −6 M, respectively. Both the electrodes have a life time of four months and respond within 15 s and 20 s, respectively, for Zn 2+ and Ni 2+ over a wide pH range (3-9). The electrodes show very good selectivity to… Show more

“…It has been recently reported that aromatic phenyl ether-based receptors can sense different ions due to their ability to form cavities, the rigidity of the planer phenyl rings and the flexibility of rotation around ether linkage. [38] However, hydrophobic natures of such organic compounds limit their application in the aqueous medium for sensing. It was therefore envisaged to impart hydrophilicity by tagging polar groups with these molecules while maintaining their cavity.…”

“…The use of phenyl ethers for the detection of various cations and anions has recently been demonstrated [36,37] . Phenyl ethers present a fascinating architecture that provides a flexible cavity due to ether linkage and adequate rigidity due to aromatic rings [38] . Herein, we report a molecular probe with diphenyl ether cores appended to the carbothiohydrazide functionality as the metal ion recognition motif (Figure 1).…”

“…The permissible limit of PVC on the membrane electrode has the composition of PVC: o-NPOE: DPA: NaTPB as 33:61:3:3 (w/w) as the optimum composition with the closest Nernstian response (Kaur, Chhibber and Mittal, 2017). The composition according to (Badakhshan, 2019) is 30:65.5:0.5 mg of PVC: o-NPOE: KTpClPB, as a composition of PVC, plasticizer and lipophilic additive.…”
