While the most common injury to adults is a humeral shaft fracture, arm wrestling can also cause other serious injuries such as scapular neck fracture, 14 rupture of the subscapularis, 8,25,57 rupture of the medial collateral ligament of the elbow, 44 anterior dislocation of the elbow with or without olecranon fracture, 69,73 olecranon fracture, 64 anterior dislocation or fracture-dislocation of the radial head, 17,60 radial shaft fracture or neck fracture, 13,14,23 recurrent subluxation of the extensor carpi ulnaris tendon, 9 triangular fibrocartilage complex injury, 58 rupture of the ulnar collateral ligament of the thumb, 24 and proximal phalanx fracture 21 ; moreover, epiphyseal fracture-separation of the medial humeral epicondyle may occur in teenagers. 2,54,59,75,83 The purpose of this review is to systematically evaluate the available literature to clarify the current understanding of humeral shaft fracture secondary to arm wrestling and propose the possible mechanism based on clinical and experimental evidence.…”
