BACKGROUNDHawke, van Driel, Buffington, McGuire, and King (2018) evaluated the safety and effectiveness of oral homeopathic medicinal products used to prevent and treat acute respiratory tract infections (ARTI) in children, as compared to a placebo or conventional treatment. The effectiveness and safety of homeopathy used to treat ARTI in children has not been well documented. While most ARTI are self-limiting, their symptoms cause distress and may lead to the child's inability to attend school and/or their parents' inability to attend work. Acute respiratory tract infections occur frequently (between three to six times annually) among children and may lead to complications, hospitalization, or death. Sadly, ARTI (inclusive of upper and lower respiratory tract infections) represent the most common cause of illness as well as mortality among children less than 5 years, except during the neonatal period (Simoes et al., 2006). Treatments for ARTI focus on symptom
