Abstract:<p>Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a severe and fatal condition characterized by severe hypoxic respiratory failure resistant to oxygen therapy with bilateral lung infiltrates in radiological findings, first described in 1967 by Ashbaugh and colleagues.
