“…Histopathologic examination of those periorbital lesions reported in the literature have shown changes consistent with chronic DLE 15 and less commonly with lupus panniculitis 14 and lupus erythematosus tumidus. 16,17 However, our cases had striking dermal mucinosis consistent with a cutaneous mucinosis in association with lupus erythematosus.…”

“…2,4,[7][8][9][10] Papulonodular mucinosis, also known as cutaneous lupus mucinosis, is a wellknown example of this. 4,7,11 Periorbital swelling secondary to dermal mucin deposition has been described in lupus erythematosus [12][13][14][15][16][17] ; however, it is not widely recognized as one of its cutaneous manifestations. We report a case series of periorbital mucinosis occurring in association with other cutaneous manifestations of lupus erythematosus.…”

“…To the best of our knowledge, of the 33 reported cases of PNM in the English medical literature, 28 were accompanied by other typical cutaneous eruptions of LE, such as discoid lesions, macular erythema, annular atropic lesions, papulosquamous eruptions, vasculopathic lesions or alopecia [5][6][7][8][9] . It is interesting that our patient had no skin lesions for 2 years after being diagnosed with systemic LE, and papular mucinosis was the only cutaneous manifestation of his systemic LE.…”
