Acute Pancreatitis in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients: Diagnosis in the Icodextrin Era

Abstract: Figure 3 -This peritoneal equilibration test with discrepant results was performed when the patient had a serum glucose level of 273 mg/dL. The 4-hour creatinine dialysate/plasma ratio (D/P) indicates high-average membrane characteristics and the 4-hour dialysate glucose/dialysate glucose at time 0 (D/D 0 ) indicates a low-average membrane classification.

“…Icodextrin can be prescribed once daily for patients with diabetes and glycated hemoglobin > 7.0%, requiring 2.5% or 4.25% dextrose solution in more than half of daily exchanges, or with high or high-average peritoneal membrane transport. Although icodextrin may interfere with amylase activity measurements, resulting in falsely low amylase levels (30), lipase activity closely corresponds to the presence of AP (31). The present study revealed that the use of icodextrin could reduce the risk of developing AP in PD patients.…”

Only articles in English and those describing cases of AP in PD patients were included.…”
