“…In contrast to a previous study administering 200µg of LSD [6] we did not find significant increases of spiritual experiences in the LSD condition. We assessed spirituality with the spirituality scale of the Affective Neuroscience Personality Scales [43] at screening visit.…”

“…In summary, LSD induced subjective effects as anticipated [6]. All of these LSD-induced effects were blocked by the 5-HT2AR antagonist ketanserin, pointing to the key role of the 5-HT2AR in mediating the human experience of LSD-induced effects.…”

“…Specifically, MDMA mainly induces the transporter-mediated release of serotonin (Hysek et al 2012) and stimulates oxytocin secretion Ramos et al 2013), which has been implicated in the prosocial effects of MDMA (Ramos et al 2013). Additionally, the serotonin receptor agonist LSD (Rickli et al 2016) stimulated oxytocin secretion (Schmid et al 2015a), produced prosocial effects, and enhanced emotional empathy in the MET (Dolder et al 2016). In contrast to MDMA and LSD and our prediction, the present study found that alcohol did not change oxytocin levels in 30 female and 30 male participants at a low dose (0.27 g/kg) as similarly shown for a high dose of alcohol (0.8 g/kg) in seven male subjects (Bershad et al 2015).…”

“…Furthermore, the prototypical hallucinogen LSD has received renewed attention in psychiatric research (Dolder et al, 2015;Geyer, 2015;Kupferschmidt, 2014;Schmid et al, 2015) and as an adjunct to psychotherapy to treat anxiety (Gasser et al, 2014). Thus, the classic hallucinogens psilocin, DMT, and LSD were also included in the present study to provide more up-to-date basic in vitro pharmacological data on these clinically important substances, including profiles at human receptors, and allow direct comparisons between these classic substances with novel tryptamines and other novel psychoactive substances within the same assays (Liechti, 2015;Rickli et al, 2015a;Rickli et al, 2015b;Rickli et al, 2015c;Simmler et al, 2013;Simmler et al, 2016;Simmler et al, 2014a;Simmler et al, 2014b).…”
