“…Gender equity is an increasingly important concept to address in healthcare education, research, workforce planning, and delivery. Obstacles and barriers need to be addressed for equitable gender distribution in the NP workforce, as the majority of NPs tend to be Caucasian women ( Reuter-Rice et al, 2016 ). As of 2018, 91% of Canadian NPs were female, in contrast to only 42% of Canadian physicians ( Canadian Institute of Health Information, 2019b ) and in our study females accounted for 93% of respondents.…”

As interprofessional team members, CPNP-AC providers are responsible for independent and collaborative decisions when providing patient care and engaging families in the process of care delivery (Stocker, Pilgrim, Burmester, Allen, & Gijselaers, 2016).…”

“…The PNP role is essential to the delivery of health care to children in all health care settings where they are principally engaged in direct patient care (Aruda et al, 2016;Reuter-Rice et al, 2016). Pediatricians, hospital administrators, and pediatric subspecialists have indicated intentions to hire more PNPs (BLS, 2018;Freed, Dunham, Loveland-Cherry, Martyn, & Moote 2011;Freed et al, 2012).…”

“…24 More than 80% of acute care pediatric NPs feel that knowledge and skills surrounding emergent and lifethreatening situations and initial resuscitation measures are very important in their role. 19 These skills were ranked second in the 10 highest ranked attributes of patient management by acute care pediatric NPs. 19 Furthermore, little is known about the type of in-hospital training APPs receive to prepare them to be leaders during these events.…”
